Resurfacing - Manvers Street and St James’s Parade, Bath

Manvers Street

STATUS: COMPLETED 3RD OCTOBER
4/10/07 - Works completed early - Weds night 3rd October
2/10/07 - Works commenced
1/10/07 - Works delayed due to bad weather
28/9/07 - Work due to commence Monday 1st October, finishing on Friday 5th October

DESCRIPTION OF WORKS

Commencing on Monday 1st of October, Bath and North East Somerset will be undertaking carriageway resurfacing works to Manvers Street, Bath.

Taking advantage of the existing temporary one way system on Manvers Street (associated with the Southgate Project) it will be possible to resurface one side of the carriageway at a time – whilst still permitting traffic to pass on the other side of the road. However, due to the high daytime traffic flow, works will only be undertaken nightly from 1930 – 0600, starting on the evening of Monday 1st October and finishing before 0600 on Friday 5th October.

It should be noted that whilst resurfacing works are undertaken in the area of Manvers Street Car Park, disruption to access and egress for long periods will be unavoidable. Should vehicle movements be necessary, liaison with the Contractors as early as possible when they arrive on site in the evening is strongly advised as this can alleviate unnecessary frustration for drivers and delays to the works. During the daytime (out of works hours), Manvers Street Car Park will be operating as usual. Season and other permit holders for Manvers Street Car Park will be notified of special arrangements by the Parking Office prior to commencement of the works.

St James’s Parade

STATUS: COMPLETED 18TH OCTOBER
18/10/07 - Works completed. St James's Parade has reverted back to two-way traffic.
16/10/07 - Corn Street Island reinstatement work commenced
15/10/07 - carriageway resurfacing complete
13/10/07 - stablisation works completed
8/10/07 - stabilisation works to the carriageway concrete slabs commenced
5/10/07 - Works commenced Thursday 4th October following the early completion of Manvers Street. Expected completion date 20th October.

DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
  • St. James’s Parade will be resurfaced after completion of Manvers Street.  Works will include the stabilisation of the underlying concrete slabs to the north side of the road. These works may take up to three weeks to complete.
  • Preliminary works including the temporary removal of part of the traffic island at the junction of St. James’s Parade and Corn Street may be undertaken during the week commencing 1st October 2007. The island will be reinstated when the works to St. James’s Parade are complete.
  • A temporary one way system on St. James’s Parade permitting traffic to travel only in the south easterly direction (with associated diversion route) will be in place throughout the works period.
  • The resurfacing and slab stabilisation works on the south eastern part of the road will be undertaken between 0800 and 2100 Monday to Sunday inclusive.
  • The north western area of St. James’s Parade, where it meets James Street West, (south of the large traffic island), will be resurfaced on Sundays only between the hours of 0800 – 2100.

When this phase of the work is in progress, no traffic will be permitted to enter St. James’s Parade via the section of road between the island and the Hobgoblin Public House. To permit egress from Hot Bath Street during this phase, the one way system along the north of the large traffic island will be revoked, enabling traffic to be diverted either into Westgate Buildings or James Street West. (It should be noted that Stop/Go traffic control will be used at all times during this stage of the works to enable safe egress from Hot Bath Street and safe access to Lower Borough Walls from James Street West).

For safety purposes, during this stage of the works the pedestrian crossing outside of the Hobgoblin will be closed and temporarily re-sited further along St. James’s Parade.

On-street fliers will be displayed advising drivers who regularly park on St James’s Parade that only very limited parking will be available. Vehicles left parked within the limits of the works area during the advertised works times will be obstructing the works.

Certain operations during the carriageway resurfacing will disrupt access/egress to adjacent properties and your co-operation and patience at these times will be greatly appreciated. Should vehicle movements be necessary, early liaison with the Contractors when they are on site is strongly advised as this can alleviate unnecessary frustration for residents/businesses and delays to the works. Should you have special need for access/egress to your property (e.g. delivery vans, removal vans and the like) please contact Gill Rice on 01225 394172, so that we are able to liaise with you directly.

It should be noted that any dates and times advertised may be subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

  • As far as possible, noise levels generated by the works will be kept to a minimum. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

  • Any dates and times advertised concerning the works shall be subject to change in the event of adverse weather or other unforeseen conditions which may arise during the works.

  • Scheme Information Boards advising motorists of the works will be displayed in the vicinity of the works approximately two weeks prior to commencement.
