Work Summary

The Council will be carrying out major carriageway and footway maintenance works along the A36 Lower Bristol Road. It is important that these works are undertaken as the carriageway and footway pavements are in need of essential maintenance work. Improvements to existing highway drainage and the replacement of some kerb sections and road markings shall also be carried out as part of these works. This web page will be updated throughout the works period.

Traffic Restrictions

Works will be carried out during both daytime and night time hours.

In order to ensure that delay and disruption caused by the works are minimised it is planned for these works to be carried out under temporary lane closures using portable traffic signal controls on a 24 hours a day/7 days a week basis, and night-time temporary road closures of the A36. Diversions will be in place along the A4 and Windsor Bridge Road for through traffic between 7pm and 6am when the A36 is closed. Signage advising of the temporary road closures will be displayed on the A36 during the works period.

Works on the section of the A36 west of Connection Road for approximately one kilometre to Newton Brook Bridge are likely to be undertaken 24 hours per day. However, works on the section of the A36 from it’s junction with the High Street to a point just to the west of Connection Road will be undertaken between the hours of 7.00 pm to 6.00 am.

A temporary mandatory 20 mph speed limit will be implemented along the A36 works length throughout the works period to help ensure safety to site personnel and the public. Arrangements for a works shut-down will be in place to accommodate the Bath Half Marathon event on Sunday 25th March.

Pedestrian access will be available at all times to those properties situated along the works length. However, vehicular access to properties may be temporarily suspended when works are taking place adjacent to the property.  You will be advised in advance of any such proposed restrictions, and we will endeavour to minimise inconvenience.
