A36 Limpley Stoke Slope Stabilisation and Monkton Combe
Retaining Wall
Start date: 31st March 2008
Duration: 12 weeks
Work by: InterRoute on behalf of the Highways
Agency
Brief desciption: This is a major slope
stabilisation, retaining wall stabilisation, partial carriageway
reconstruction and footway resurfacing scheme, on the A36 south of
Bath.
Reason for the work: The slope to the west of
the A36 at Limpley Stoke is beginning to fail and has resulted in
the safety barrier foundations becoming unsafe. Similarly the stone
retaining wall, between the canal arch and the railway arch, at
Monkton Combe is showing signs of failure. Over a period of time
rain water has worn away at the granular material behind the wall,
which now needs repairing.
Traffic Management: Diversion routes will be
clearly signed and in operation for the duration of the scheme
UPDATE - The B3108 junction with the A36 is open during
the day from 7am to 7pm – this is available to light traffic
only. There are temporary traffic
signals positioned to allow a fair flow through the
junction.
