Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme

A considerate contractor in progress

About the scheme

The public has the right to expect the highest standards from all utilities and contractors working on our streets.

Bath & North East Somerset Council are committed to improving standards of streetworks within the authority area.

The Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme recoginises that the public, our customers have a right to be informed, and where appropriate consulted about potential disruption and congestion arising from streetworks in their locality. Moreover it recognises that conflict between contractors, frontages and other highway users can be significantly reduced by careful planning, and safer working practices.

This scheme demonstrates a further commitment towards innovation in service delivery, best practice development. and make Bath & North East Somerset a better place to live, work and visit.

Quotes

“This demonstrates Bath & North East Somerset Council’s commitment to improving the standards of service.

“Each year around 10,000 utility and highway works take place in Bath and North East Somerset. It is vital therefore that we try to make any necessary works run as smoothly as possible. This new scheme will help make sure that these works have the least impact on residents, visitors and businesses.

Cllr Sir Elgar Jenkins, Executive Member for Transport and Highways

“The public has a right to expect the highest standards from all the contractors working on our streets and Bath & North East Somerset Council is committed to improving standards for the benefit of all.

“A partnership of the Council and the public will make sure that we are getting a good service on our pavements and highways

Peter Brook, Network Manager, Bath & North East Somerset Council

“Wessex Water has a very clear commitment to customer focus in its approach to work, to ensure that the needs and interests of its customers and the environment are identified and met.

“We have an excellent working relationship with Bath & North East Somerset Council and have already worked well with them on a number of schemes to minimise the impact on the public.

“The Considerate Contractor Scheme presents an excellent opportunity for us to strengthen our relationship with the council, and gain further insight into the public’s opinion of our working methods and how we can continue to improve in the future. We are therefore very pleased to be able to support this scheme with Bath & North East Somerset Council.”

Hugh Rickard, Highways Manager for Wessex Water
