Pass Plus

Pass Plus Information

Did you know that in the first two years after passing your test, newly qualified drivers are more likely to have an accident than at any other time in their driving lifetime?

In fact ONE IN FIVE newly qualified drivers will be involved in an accident in the first year after passing their test. This is mainly down to lack of driving experience, and this is where Pass Plus comes in.

Pass Plus is a training course backed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and leading insurance companies to encourage newly qualified drivers to become better drivers. It is a course that consists of six additional specially designed training sessions which follow on from a successful driving test:

  1. Town driving
  2. All-weather driving
  3. Driving out of town
  4. Night driving
  5. Driving on dual carriageways
  6. Driving on motorways

Pass Plus will build upon your existing skills and knowledge. It will teach you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazards, and can help you to become more confident on the roads. You will not have to take a test at the end of the course but you will be continually assessed. You must complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard.

Fees for the Pass Plus course will vary depending on where you live and the instructor or driving school you choose. You should bear in mind that the course will take a minimum of six hours. If more sessions are needed for you to successfully complete the course, this may add to the cost.

When you have successfully completed the course, you are advised to check available discounts offered by insurance companies taking part in the scheme. The amount you save will depend on the company you choose, and you may even save more than you paid for the course. Please click here to see the Pass Plus website for details of insurance companies taking part.
