Motorcycle Training

Compulsory Basic Training

The law now requires that all new motorcyclists undertake Compulsory Basic Training before they can legally ride a motorcycle on the public highway. These courses are available at several local centres.

Once you have successfully completed CBT you can carry on and take additional training to pass your test and qualify for a full motorcycle or moped licence. Most training centres will offer training for the full test as well as CBT.

Find Your Nearest CBT Centre

We have two CBT Centres in our area:

Motag Southern Ltd
Lansdown Playing Fields (North)

Alternatively, to search for your nearest CBT centre you can visit the Driving Standards website. Just type in your postcode and it will list the nearest CBT centres to your home.

Advanced Training Courses

The IAM and RoSPA offer advanced training courses for motorcyclists. Both groups offer a social side with organised ride-outs and evening events for the motorcycle enthusiast.

By taking an advanced course you will improve and maintain your riding ability as well as maintaining your no claims bonus. On enquiry, your insurance company may offer further discounts for IAM or RoSPA members.

Bikesafe Days

We run Rider Improvement Seminars throughout the year. These are one day events held at Radstock Police Station. The day is suitable for all riders of powered two wheels who hold a full driving licence for motorcycles. The motorcycle must be capable of reaching the National Speed Limit. The aim of the Seminar is the same for all, enjoy your riding and stay safe. Another aim of the Seminar is to get motorcyclists enthused about developing their riding further and to recognise the skills required.

Please click here for dates and locations of these seminars, as well as other other events throughout the Avon & Somerset Area.
