Top trials rider shows pupils how to BIKE IT!
Andrei Burton, ranked in the top ten mountain bike trials riders
in the world showed off his incredible skills by performing an
extreme cycling stunt show for pupils at Broadlands School in
Keynsham.
The school is taking part in the Bike It project managed by
sustainable transport charity Sustrans and Andrei’s performance
marks the start of a competition called ‘Ticket to Ride’ which
encourages children at the school to choose two wheels instead of
four for the school journey.
The ‘Ticket to Ride’ competition is a really simple
incentive to get children cycling. Every time anyone rides to
school they are rewarded with a free entry into a prize draw.
There are some great prizes on offer including a mountain biking
afternoon with Young Bristol Outdoor Activity Centre, a free
subscription to Mountain Biking UK magazine courtesy of Future
Publishing and trendy bike bags from Dutch company Basil.
Andrei said: "I’ve loved riding bikes since I was a kid and
now I get to compete against the best in the world. I’m really glad
that I can use my skills to show schoolchildren just how fantastic
riding a bike can be"
Bike It is a nationwide scheme, managed by
sustainable transport charity Sustrans. Nationally the
project is funded by Cycling England and the cycle industry;
locally it is supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council.
This event was organised by Broadlands’ pupil-led Bike Forum with
help from Richard Cleave, School Sports Coordinator.
