School Crossing Patrol Officers who work for Bath & North
East Somerset Council and help thousands of children to across the
district’s roads come rain or shine have been thanked for their
dedication.
Nearly 80 years of experience has been clocked up between just
three of the officers representing Bath, Radstock and Midsomer
Norton, who were given special thanks by Bath & North East
Somerset Council’s Chairman Councillor Ian Dewey.
Rose Gullick, who has served Trinity Primary School, and its
predecessor Radstock Infants, for the past 20 years, was presented
with a bouquet to mark her retirement. Rose was joined by her
colleague Sylvia Sheilds, who has patrolled for 10 years at St
John’s Primary School in North Road, Midsomer Norton.
A special tribute was paid to Doreen Winfield, who had also
served at St John’s Primary School, who sadly passed away earlier
this year.
School Crossing patrol Officer Bill Holmes, who has served 39
years with Bath City Council and Bath & North East Somerset, is
the longest serving of the group. He now serves King Edwards Junior
School, North Road in Bath.
Beryl Miles, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s School
Crossing Patrol Coordinator said: "All of Bath & North East
Somerset Council’s School Crossing Patrol Officers do an excellent
job so I try to get them together once a year to say thank you for
the past 12 months and bring them up to date with issues that
relate to their work. Some 22 of the current patrols enjoy this
annual gathering which gives them the chance to meet each other and
swap stories about their jobs".
"Bath & North East Somerset Council’s School Crossing
Patrol officers are remarkable examples of community spirit in
action. I am sure that everyone in the community would join with me
in thanking them for their dedication to community safety, their
reliability in keeping the hundreds of children who they help
across the roads safe." - Councillor Dewey
