Rosemary Lane receives a new surface
Rosemary Lane resurfacing was quite a challenge for the
Contractors - John Wainwright and Co Ltd, not only because of
narrowness of the carriageway, but also because of the gradient of
the road.
Many of the houses are built directly adjacent to the
carriageway, so the residents received a letter from the Council
advising them to be sure their doors and windows were closed during
the works just in case children or persons with special needs, or
even pets, ventured into the way of road resurfacing machinery, or
walked out of the houses and across the hot, wet bitumen
surface.
In order to balance the requirements of road users, businesses,
and residents and to ensure that delay and disruption was
minimised, the works were carried out on each site according to
individual site limitations.
Precise times, days, and duration of road closures varied
according to the extent of the works to be undertaken and the road
usage (school bus routes, bus routes, HGV routes, proximity to
schools etc.). Where possible, the timing of road closures also
took into account very busy commuter routes.
In the more urban locations where on street parking is
permitted, to accommodate the works, parking was suspended
throughout the period of the road closure and notification from the
Council and the Contractor were supplied to adjacent properties
prior to the works.
