Fourth successful year for Jam Busting June!
Jam Busting June is the month-long commuter challenge which
promotes the use of sustainable transport on the journey to work
throughout the month of June.
This year’s competition saw almost 3,000 participants take part
saving almost half a million car miles.
The competition is run by Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol
City, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire councils. It is
managed through a dedicated website where participants have a
travel diary to complete and for every commuting journey done by a
sustainable transport mode, points are awarded towards the prize
draw.
In a joint statement the four authorities said:
"This campaign is aimed at raising awareness of sustainable
transport options. If we all travelled by an alternative mode to
the private car just one day a week congestion would be reduced by
20 per cent."The competition is not just for those switching
transport modes, but also to reward those who already do their bit.
Jam Busting June is a fun competition which should help raise
awareness of transport issues and is part of a wider package of
measures to help people improve their journeys."
The prizes include an iPod touch, shopping vouchers and free bus
travel.
