Bike Week
This year the Council’s Traffic & Safety and Sports &
Active Leisure teams held a number of events across the authority
as part of Bike Week.
The UK’s annual promotion of cycling which aims to get more people
on their bikes – whether for fun, as an alternative way of
commuting to work or a way to reduce the number of unnecessary
short car journeys most of us are guilty of.
Two of the events included free family treasure hunts with a
chance to win a bike which were both a great success. The first
treasure hunt was a joint authority event with South
Gloucestershire at the Bristol to Bath Railway Path. This was a
great day with more than 250 entrants.
The second family event was a treasure trail on the Colliers Way
in Radstock. Approxinmately 100 people came along despite it being
a slightly wet day. Everyone had a chance to have there bike
checked by Halfords and after the ride they were offered free
refreshments.
In addition there were three Bike to Work breakfasts mid week in
Bath, Keynsham and Radstock where cycle commuters could get a free
breakfast. Everyone could get their bike checked and at Bath there
was also Bath
FM broadcasting their breakfast show.
