I know that there are permit controlled areas for permits. Where are they and what permits are available?

There are 2 main permit areas – the Central Zone in Bath and the Bath Outer Residential Parking Zone (which is split into 10 areas).

In the Central Zone one permit is available per household which can have up to 2 registrations on it. In the Outer Zones where the pressure for parking space is less there are 2 permits per household available with permits also available for businesses. Bath Controlled Parking Zones

There is also a residents permits zone in Keynsham. Keynsham Controlled Parking Zone

Other special types of permit are also available. Parking Permits

I’m not sure which permit area I live in – how can I find out?

You can look on the map Bath Controlled Parking Zones or if you prefer, give us a call on 01225 477134 or 477133.

How do I go about getting a permit?

You need to make an application. If you call us we will send you an application form. You can then either return it to us or visit the Parking Shop at the Guildhall where it may be possible to process it on the spot. If sent by post it will normally take about a week. Applications must be supported by proof of residency and car ownership.

What if I live in a permit controlled area, have visitors and want somewhere for them to park?

In the Outer Zones every household has the right to purchase 100 visitors permits per year (200 if a senior citizen). These are valid for a day but must be filled in properly when used by your guests. In the Central parking Zone regrettably there are no visitors’ permits available but there are lots of car parks and paid for on street parking. In all areas there are varying levels of limited waiting all of which are free. Visitor Parking Permits

What if I live in a permit controlled area and have contractors working on my house?

Contractors permits are available in both the main zones.

Contractors should wherever possible buy these in advance from the Parking Shop at the Guildhall.

The parking Shop is open from 08:30am to 5:00pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 09:30am to 5:00pm on Wednesdays and 08:30am to 04:30pm on Fridays.

The contractor will need to prove that they are bona fide and have business at your place of residence.  Special Permits

How much are permits?

Please view the permit pages for more details:

What if I’m moving into or out of a controlled parking area?

If you are moving in give us a call beforehand – we may be able to help with reserving space for your removal lorry. If you are moving out the same applies but in addition make sure that you return your old parking permits – they are refundable for months left unused and if you don’t the new owners wont be able to get a permit for themselves.

Is there on street parking available for general use?

In the Central parking Zone there is on Street Pay & Display. Depending on the area this is either available for one or two hours. Signs by the roadside will tell you this.
