Traffic Regulation Orders
Traffic Regulation orders and other notices related
to traffic and parking.
Traffic Regulation Orders are legal documents
drafted and made (approved) by the Council which regulate the use
of highways and off street parking areas within the Bath and North
East Somerset area by drivers of vehicles and/or
pedestrians.
The effects of the orders are usually indicated by signs and lines
marked on the highway surface. Regulations laid before Parliament
require the Council to consult the police, emergency services,
representative organisations and the public before any Order
introducing or changing parking or traffic controls can be made and
implemented. The period of time within which representations
or responses are to be received by the Council depends on the
nature of the Order(s) concerned and is specified in each
notice.
It is a requirement to advertise TROs to introduce parking
restrictions along the affected streets for a period of 21 days
inviting written comment. If objections to the proposals are
received the points are included in a report which is considered by
the Executive Member for Customer Services Charles Gerrish.
At this time he can decide one of three courses of action.
- Withdraw the proposals the objections relate to.
- Overule the objections.
-
Modify the proposals either by length or
duration.
Please note if the objector requests
other proposals which have not been advertised and cannot be
achieved by 3) above. It would be necessary to re-advertise the new
proposal.
