Officer
Bath & North East Somerset Council and the Theatre Royal
Bath have joined together to remind people how much of their
Christmas waste they can now recycle.
Pantomime stars Tom Owen, who plays the role of King, and Jon
Monie, who appears as Muddles in the Theatre Royal’s production of
Sleeping Beauty took time out of their busy performance schedule to
raise awareness of festive recycling and also reminded residents to
see another Christmas production on the Council’s website – a video
of the top five recycling tips at www.bathnes.gov.uk/recyclingtips
Actor Tom Owen, well known for his role in BBC TV’s Last of the
Summer Wine, said, “I was surprised to learn just how many
different items can be recycled at this time of year. Christmas
trees, Christmas cards and wrapping paper are all on the list. It’s
definitely worth checking what you can leave out for collection,
and if you’ve been meaning to make better use of the recycling
service on offer, this is a great time of year to make a
start.”
This year you can also recycle a much wider range of plastic –
most plastic used for packaging food and drinks can now be recycled
in addition to plastic bottles. Cardboard from packaging your
presents and greetings cards are now collected weekly instead for
fortnightly. Simply put them in your new blue bag or other suitable
container such as a cardboard box or plastic carrier bag. And
throughout January, the Council will collect Christmas trees for no
charge as part of the fortnightly garden waste collections.
Councillor Charles Gerrish (Conservative, Keynsham North),
Cabinet Member for Customer Services, said, “There is so much waste
packaging from things like food and presents during Christmas. Bath
& North East Somerset Council now provides residents with so
many opportunities to recycle different materials. And, especially
at Christmas, the Council hopes residents will find the time to
help tackle the causes and effects of climate change by recycling
as much as possible.”
Tom Owen and Jon Monie star alongside Liza Goddard, Gemma Bissix
and Chris Harris in Bath’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty until 24
January, sponsored by the Bath Chronicle.
