Exciting designs for new Fosse Way School unveiled

A £4.2 million building improvement programme at Fosse Way Special Education Needs School, which is being overseen by Bath & North East Somerset Council, is progressing well.

The school in Longfellow Road, Radstock, provides facilities for over 100 pupils, aged from three to 19 years. All students have a Statement of Special Educational Needs.

Following a successful bid for Government funding, £4.2m is being invested in the school to replace temporary buildings with new permanent facilities.

Through detailed consultation with school staff and governors, an exciting new build scheme has been drawn up which will provide a modern learning environment for children in key stages three and four. The building will include teaching rooms, group rooms, media and library areas and a science classroom, together with much improved staff and administration areas.

Cllr Jonathan Gay, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “The school has recently received a Building Design and Quality Award from Bath & North East Somerset Council, for improvements that have already been made to the building, which include a new modern entrance area and food technology and design classrooms.

“This award is a great first step in the building improvement programme, which will result in state-of-the-art facilities for teachers, pupils and the wider community.”

A planning application for the next phase of works was submitted at the end of January 2007, and planning drawings are available to see at the Council offices, Trimbridge House, Trim Street, Bath.

Construction is programmed to begin in July 2007, with a proposed handover to the school in September 2008.
