Top marks for ‘outstanding’ St Stephen’s

Top marks across the board and a glowing report from Ofsted are being celebrated by children, parents, staff, and governors at St Stephen’s Church of England Primary School, Bath.

St Stephen’s Church of England Primary School, in Richmond Place, has been classified an “outstanding school” after achieving the highest scores possible across all categories in its recent Ofsted inspection.

It is very rare that a school achieves the best ratings in all of the assessment areas, which include the standard of teaching, personal development of pupils, and overall effectiveness and management of the school.

Pete Mountstephen, head teacher at St Stephen’s said: “I am so proud of the whole team; children, staff, parents and governors. It is very nourishing and affirming to receive such positive approval for what we are all so committed to achieving for children.

“There is such a vibrant and energetic school community in Bath and North East Somerset and this report celebrates what so many of us hold dear.”

The report states that children love going to the school and often cannot wait to get there in the morning, and that parents agree it is a “fantastic school” with a “vibrant, warm and caring atmosphere”.

The school was also praised for using its outstanding partnership links with other institutions, including specialist support for older children through local secondary schools and sporting organisations.

The Inspectors said: “Pupils attain extremely high standards in all subjects and this prepares them exceptionally well for the next stage of their learning. Parents are unanimous in their view that they ‘cannot recommend the school highly enough’.”

Their report added: “The teaching of the enthusiastic and highly motivated staff is outstanding. The exceptional quality of teaching in Reception is based on an extremely secure knowledge of the needs of these youngsters. Teachers throughout the school create very interesting learning environments where the very high quality work of the pupils is reflected and celebrated very well.”
