Multi Development UK Ltd, in partnership with Bath & North
East Somerset Council, has reached a key milestone in the
development of the £360 million SouthGate scheme by completing the
installation of the stone panels on Block B within the scheme.
After several months of complex structural works combined with
the application of pre-cast stone panels to the entire block, Block
B is now ready for its finishing touches. The next crucial step for
Block B is the installation of the roof, after which the internal
fit-out can begin.
Block B is part of the first phase of the SouthGate scheme,
which is set to open in autumn next year along with blocks A and C,
bringing national retailer H&M and a new store for Boots in
Bath. The remainder of the scheme will open in two further phases
in spring and autumn 2010.
Jon Munce, Development Manager, Multi Development UK Ltd
(pictured, left) said:
“This milestone in the development of SouthGate demonstrates the
enormous progress that has been made since work started on-site in
February 2007.The scheme has been architecturally designed to
remain sensitive to Bath’s World Heritage status and blend with the
city’s beautiful Georgian architecture. Add this to a host of new
brands to the city, as well as a leisure and residential offer,
SouthGate is set to meet the demands of the modern shopper.”
Councillor David Hawkins, Bath & North East Somerset Council
Cabinet Member for Development and Major Projects (pictured,

“Bath and North East Somerset Council is pleased the next block
of SouthGate is now complete. The Council is working constructively
in partnership with Multi Development. SouthGate plays a
fundamental role in realising the Council’s Vision for the district
and particularly our improvement priority of promoting sustainable
growth. The completed project should improve Bath’s retail status
and increase our visitor numbers to the city. Residents across Bath
and North East Somerset can now see the scheme taking shape and get
a clear idea of how the scheme will look upon completion and how
well it fits with the surrounding environment.”
