Eighteen new affordable homes, at the gateway to Bath, have been
officially opened by Bath & North East Somerset Council
Chairman, Councillor Ian Dewey.
Burnthouse Court, as it is known, is a Western Challenge Housing
Association scheme providing a mix of apartments for rent and for
shared ownership (part rent - part buy). It has been built in
partnership with Bath & North East Somerset Council who have
nominated residents to the properties and provided funding to build
the scheme.
Maralyn Hiatt Gipson, Resident added: "I’m very happy and
settled in my new home and looking forward to meeting some of the
other residents. “
The homes have been constructed by Halsall Construction who are
locally based and have done an excellent job to ensure that the
development is in keeping with the area and incorporates natural
slate roofs, local Bath stone and zinc on certain
elevations. Recycled material from the original buildings has
also been used.
Burnthouse Court cost £2.9million to build and was grant funded
to the tune of £1.35million by the Housing Corporation and Bath
& North East Somerset Council.
Councillor Vic Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Housing, Bath &
North East Somerset Council said: “Increasing the amount of
affordable housing is one of the key priorities set by Bath &
North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet. I am delighted that this
development has been completed and that the new residents have been
given these opportunities to get on the property ladder. On behalf
of the Council I wish them well with settling into their
homes.”
A public house previously stood on the site which has now made
way for seven one bedroom apartments and eleven two bedroom
apartments (nine of which are for shared ownership).
Cllr Ian Dewey added: "Congratulations to everyone
involved. You have delivered an excellent scheme and provided
wonderful homes. It is a real improvement on what was here before.
