The Victoria Art Gallery in Bridge Street, Bath welcomed a very
special guest on Thursday 20 March. His Royal Highness The Duke of
Gloucester viewed the Blue and White Show which has seen a record
number of visitors (over 25,000) to the Bath & North East
Somerset Council-run gallery during the last few months.
His Royal Highness was presented to Councillor Ian Dewey,
Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset Council, Mr John
Everitt, the Chief Executive of the Council and the Mayor of Bath
Cllr Sharon Ball. Jon Benington, Gallery Manager accompanied His
Royal Highness around the exhibition and presented the artists and
the guest curator, Deirdre McSharry.
Jon Benington, Gallery Manager said: "We are delighted that the
fabulous Blue and White exhibition is receiving the Royal seal of
approval with The Duke of Gloucester’s visit - effectively making
it the red, white and blue exhibition! It is a terrific accolade
both for the three artists and for the Gallery’s loyal local
supporters."
The Blue and White Show runs at the Victoria Art Gallery until
30 March. Hundreds of pieces of blue and white china, textiles and
mosaics create a vast mosaic of pattern and colour. The inspiration
behind the exhibition is a collection of early nineteenth century
blue and white transferware pottery, displayed on a giant
Georgian-style dresser which forms the centrepiece of the show.
