Bath and North East Somerset Council have won the ‘Project of
the Year’ and ‘Best Value’ awards at the prestigious South West
Built Environment Awards Ceremony for the Three Ways School
project. With investment of over £12 million, Three Ways School
replaced three smaller Bath special schools bringing together staff
and children into a purpose built 21st Century environment.
Councillor Chris Watt ,Cabinet Member for Children’s Services,
commented:
"Three Ways School is an exceptional project. The original
design brief stated that the school should be 'unique and
distinctive, using innovative contemporary design to motivate and
inspire those using the facilities’. The final building has
certainly lived up to these expectations and the staff and children
love their new building."
Three Ways School opened its doors to pupils for the first time
on Tuesday 4th September 2007. Three Ways School provides a Centre
of Excellence for special needs education in Bath and North East
Somerset. The buildings, grounds and facilities enable 150 children
and young people with a range of special needs to receive the very
best education. The school is divided into small family units from
the nursery for the very youngest children right through to a post
16 centre. Highlights in terms of the facilities are the sensory
theatre and the hydrotherapy pool.
Councillor David Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Development and
Major Projects, added:
"The school project has been achieved to exacting standards and
within a tight timescale and budget. The Council is delighted to
have received these awards."
