Bath and North East Somerset residents are being invited to walk
their way to health on Saturday 6 September in the Royal Victoria
Park, Bath.
The event has been organised by Bath & North East Somerset
Council’s Sport & Active Leisure Team, which organises the
local Walking the Way to Health Scheme, together with Age Concern
Bath and North East Somerset.
From 10.30am, walkers will be welcomed to the park at the
Obelisk and asked to complete an Outdoor Health Questionnaire
before setting off on either a GET Strolling slower-paced walk or a
GET Striding faster-paced walk, each with an informative tour of
the Botanical Gardens. Both walks will last for approximately 45
minutes and will be led by a qualified health walks leader. Those
attending simply need to wear suitable shoes for walking and dress
according to the weather. Walks are buggy-friendly and families are
welcome.
After returning from the walks, it is hoped that walkers will
congregate in the park for picnic lunch at around 12 noon. Bath
& North East Somerset’s Primary Care Trust’s new Health
Trainers will be on hand to offer healthy eating advice and promote
their healthy lifestyle advice service.
Cllr David Hawkins, Council Cabinet Member for Customer
Services, said: "Bath & North East Somerset Council supports
this initiative because one of our objectives is to encourage
people to lead healthier and more active lifestyles."
