Bath & North East Somerset Council is pleased to reveal that
results for Key Stage One examinations are among the best in the
country.
The results, published this week (28/08/2008), show that Bath
and North East Somerset is ranked eighth in the country for
Mathematics, eleventh for Reading, and twelfth for writing, out of
154 local authorities.
This shows that the Council compares very favourably with other
local authorities.
Councillor Chris Watt, Cabinet Member for Children's Services,
said: "One of the Council’s eight priorities is better lives for
children and young people. By providing children with the best
possible start in their learning, we can help to achieve this.
These excellent Key Stage One results show that children are
building strong foundations for future success. This good news
follows on from the recent success in this year’s GCSE and A’Level
examinations. The Council would like to congratulate the children,
teachers and staff on their achievements."
The results for Key Stage One are as follows:
Mathematics: 93% at Level Two – this is a 1% improvement on last
year.
Reading: 88% at Level Two – this is a 1% improvement on last
year.
Writing: 85% at Level Two – this is the same percentage as last
year.
