Bath & North East Somerset Council is congratulating
students and secondary schools on this year’s GCSE results which
build on the success of previous years.
A number of schools are reporting their best ever provisional
results, with the percentage of students achieving the "gold
standard" achievement of five A* to C passes, including English and
Mathematics, showing a healthy increase on previous years.
Emphasis has been put on this standard by the Government this year,
and Bath & North East Somerset schools and students have risen
to the challenge.
Councillor Chris Watt said: "Bath & North East Somerset
Council is very pleased that the ‘gold standard’ clutch of results
that includes English and Mathematics is increasing. Schools in
this area have a strong record of achieving high results and this
year’s provisional results show that we are building on these
strong foundations. Congratulations to the students and staff.’
"One of the Council’s eight priorities is to improve the lives
of children and young people, the Council is committed to working
together with schools to equip young people with the skills and
knowledge that will enable them to reach their full potential"
The percentage of students achieving five A* to C including
English and Mathematics this year, based on provisional results
from the secondary schools at the time of going to press, is 57.5%.
This compares to 51.9% last year, and 52% in 2006.
The percentage of students achieving a total of five A* to C,
based on provisional results available at time of going to press,
has also increased from last year's figure of 67% to this year's
figure of approximately 70%.
