Free fun for all at ‘Keep it local: Keep it Keynsham’ campaign launch

Keynsham High Street
Everyone is invited to join in a free celebration event to mark the start of the new campaign, "Keep it local: Keep it Keynsham".

The campaign will highlight the wealth of facilities, activities, organisations and businesses which thrive in Keynsham and is hoped to encourage people to get involved in their community.

It is being led by Bath & North East Somerset Council in partnership with Keynsham Town Council, Keynsham Business Association and More to Life 08.

There will be plenty of fun activities for all ages, plus chance to find out more about local organisations and issues, at the launch event on Saturday, 13 September, from 10am.

Businesses and eateries will be offering special offers, fun and raffles. There will be live music, art workshops, and activities in the Library. Children and adults will also have the opportunity to try a wide range of sports including: badminton, swimming, kick boxing, and free adult health checks and day passes at Keynsham Leisure Centre; a climbing wall in the High Street where you can have a go at climbing proceeds from the charges will be donated to the local scouts; and basketball, tennis and hockey at the Multisports Pitches in the park. (see below for full programme).

The event will also include the Keynsham Farmers Market and the Roundhouse Art Trail (taking place on Saturday and Sunday) which includes venues throughout the town, plus Saltford and the surrounding villages.

A display on regional plans and what they mean for Keynsham, plus information about community groups will be available in the Key Centre.

Councillor Francine Haeberling, Council Leader, said: "This campaign will promote the many positive features of Keynsham. Bath & North East Somerset Council has eight priorities, including Sustainable Growth and Feeling Safer. By encouraging people to use the excellent facilities, businesses and services that Keynsham has to offer, the Council and its partners will be working with the community to make a positive impact. I hope that residents from Keynsham and further afield will enjoy getting involved in this campaign both at the launch event and as it continues."

Lyn Young, Chair of the Keynsham Business Association and owner of Perfect Fit in Keynsham, said: "It is great to see everyone working together on this. We don’t often shout about what’s good about Keynsham- there are 200 businesses in the town centre and hundreds of community groups, all offering something for everyone here."

Keep it Local: Keep it Keynsham is the first campaign of its nature to run in Bath and North East Somerset. Further plans include the launch of a revamped community website later this year, www.keynsham.co.uk . The site will include news and information about the town and all it has to offer.

News about other community initiatives will be announced as the campaign continues. The Keep It Local: Keep it Keynsham stall in the farmers market will be handing out free goodies at the launch celebration event.
