Sets of new wildlife maps will be presented by the Council to
eight parishes in the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty
(AONB).
The parishes are Chew Stoke, Compton Martin, East Harptree,
Hinton Blewett, Nempnett Thrubwell, Stowey Sutton, Ubley and West
Harptree.
The maps show the unique and special features of each Parish and
also provide management suggestions to make the parish more
wildlife friendly.
Over the past five years many local volunteers have been
carrying out the first ever comprehensive survey of rural field
boundaries across Bath & North East Somerset and South
Gloucestershire.
Funding from the Mendip Hills AONB Sustainability Fund during
2005 enabled completion of the field boundaries survey in these
parishes. The data collected was analysed by the Bristol Regional
Environmental Records Centre (BRERC) and used to produce the parish
wildlife maps.
