BATH & North East Somerset Council is organising a series of
free talks over the next few weeks to commemorate the 60th
anniversary of the end of the World War II.
The lunchtime talks at the Guildhall in Bath are also part of
the Council’s contribution to Museums and Galleries Month which
runs throughout the month of May. This is an annual celebration of
all that’s best in the UK’s museums and galleries.
All the talks take place in the Banqueting Room from
1.10pm-1.45pm and tea and coffee will be on sale from 12.45pm
onwards.
There is also an exhibition at the Bath & North East
Somerset Council-run Victoria Art Gallery until Wednesday, July 13
and admission is free. For more information on it and the series of
free talks and tours designed to accompany it, log on to

Rosemary Harden, Manager of the Museum of Costume, will be
giving the next talk on Wednesday, May 25 and her theme will be the
fashions of wartime and how people had to ‘make do and mend’ with
the clothes they had as many types of material and cloth were
heavily rationed or simply unavailable.
The final talk on Wednesday, June 1 will look at the
arrangements made by the authorities of time to defend the city of
Bath against attack and invasion. This will be led by Stephen Clews
– Manager of the Roman Baths and Pump Room.
Cllr Nicole O’Flaherty, Executive Member for Tourism, Leisure
and Culture, said: “I am sure that all residents of Bath &
North East Somerset feel that it is very important to commemorate
the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It will be
a pleasure to welcome you along to these fascinating talks and the
exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery.”
