BATH & North East Somerset Council is encouraging everyone
to make an extra new year’s resolution for 2005 – to help make Bath
and North East Somerset cleaner.
With all the extra rubbish that people produce over Christmas
now is the time to think about dealing with it carefully by
recycling or disposing of your rubbish properly.
In addition to making places look ugly, litter can pose a
serious threat to both people and animals. Almost any kind of
litter can be potentially lethal to animals as they can get tangled
up, stuck, cut, suffocated or strangled by discarded litter.
For some time now, the RSPCA has been calling on people to make
sure they dispose of rubbish carefully to prevent the horrendous
injuries they have seen happen to animals through people’s
carelessness and thoughtlessness.
Litter can also be harmful to people and the environment and can
encourage pests such as rats to increase in numbers.
Cllr Rosemary Todd, Executive Member for Sustainability and the
Environment, said: “Everyone can do their bit to help make Bath and
North East Somerset a cleaner and healthier place to live.
“Please make sure you dispose of rubbish carefully by using
litter bins or by taking your rubbish home with you. Report
incidents of fly tipping and if you see an area of council land
that is badly littered or an overfull bin report it to the
Council.”
