JANE Weeks, the Cook in Charge at East Harptree Primary School,
won the regional heat of the Local Authority Caterers Association’s
School Chef of the Year Competition last week in Bristol beating
chefs from Bristol, Devon and Yeovil.
She will now go forward to the national finals of the
competition which will be held in either Manchester or Coventry in
April.
The competition entrants have to produce a main meal and dessert
for four people which cost just 80p per person.
The main meal must be nutritionally balanced and appeal to an
11-year-old.
Jane’s winning meal was called Sunshine and Showers and
consisted of a main dish with light cheese, vegetable and bacon
bake, served with chilli sticks and a dressed salad.
The dessert was delicious mango rice on an oat base served with
caramel sauce.
Cllr Marian McNeir, Chairman of Bath & North East Somerset
Council visited the school on Thursday, January 13 to sample Jane’s
cooking for herself.
She said: “On behalf of everyone at Bath & North East
Somerset Council I would like to congratulate to Jane on her
special win.
“At East Harptree School there are 87 pupils and 85 of these
have school dinners – obviously Jane’s meals are very popular.”
