WORK is now underway to alter the road layout in and around
Keynsham High Street.
Following a consultation exercise with local residents and
businesses, Bath & North East Somerset Council is introducing a
number of measures that will improve the traffic flow and assist
pedestrians in the area.
Work on the introduction of a zebra crossing in Rock Road and
mini-roundabouts at the junctions of Rock Road / Temple Street and
Ashton Way / Charlton Road has already begun, along with changing
the priority for traffic at the junction of Rock Road and Ashton
Way.
Following this, the junction of Charlton Road and the High
Street will be altered to reduce traffic congestion at this
location.
It is proposed that the traffic turning into Charlton Road from
the Station Road direction will be given priority over on-coming
traffic, thus removing the queues that currently build up behind
vehicles waiting to turn right.
In addition, the existing zebra crossing in Charlton Road will
be moved nearer to the junction, where most pedestrians cross the
road. The existing block paviours will also be removed and
the road surface returned to its original level.
It is expected that the works at the Charlton Road / High Street
junction will begin in March. The disruption caused by this
work will be kept to a minimum and any road closures will be
restricted to weekends where possible, although there will be times
when some inconvenience is experienced. Bath & North East
Somerset Council apologises for this in advance.
Anyone wishing to make any comments or observations about these
proposed changes to the High Street / Charlton Road junction or
would like further information, should contact the Area Traffic
Engineer Neil Terry on 01225 394048 or e-mail neil_terry@bathnes.gov.uk
