Avonsafe is a partnership of health, local authority, emergency, voluntary and private sectors.  We work together to prioritise local needs and resources in the most effective way to reduce unintentional injuries.

Avonsafe covers the Local Authority areas of Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol City, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Avonsafe has set targets for injury reduction within the Avon area, in line with the 'Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation' targets.  These are to reduce the death rate from accidental injury by one fifth and the serious injury rate by at least one tenth by the year 2010 within these Local Authority areas.

Avonsafe has produced an Injury prevention Strategy 2001-2006, which places injury reduction within a framework of reducing inequalities as well as advocating the more traditional individualistic and educational interventions. 

A significant contribution to injury reduction is made through the implementation of the individual organisation's plans and policies.  Our Operational Plan highlights only the major multi-agency activities planned for this year, and describes how the strategy will be implemented by the Avonsafe Alliance.
