‘Increasing the number of young people (5 - 19)
who spend up to 5 hours each week on high quality PE and
School Sport within and beyond the
curriculum' |
Joint DCSF/DCMS PSA target
Within the Sport and Active Leisure Team, schools are an
integral and essential partner. This is especially true of
Primary Schools, where most of the children will have their first
experience of organised PE lessons and sporting
opportunities. The role of the Support Service is to work in
collaboration with the Primary School, the School Sport
Partnerships and their teachers to try to ensure that their first
experience of sport is positive.
Sport and Active Leisure also aim to support the work of
physical education departments in Secondary schools and assist in
providing opportunities for 11-19 year olds to participate in and
gain leadership experience in sports activities outside school
hours.
Through links with the School Sports Partnerships and
Heads of Physical Education information and ideas are shared
to provide a more effective service to schools and their students,
to ensure that members of school staff are aware of new initiatives
and products available to them and to make the Sport and Active
Leisure Team aware of trends & changes in education.
