Community Activators
Supporting you to GET ACTIVE in your community
What is a Community Activator?
The Community Activator Scheme is a brand new service which
works within the Council's Sport and Active Leisure Team, alongside
the local Health Trainer service provided by Bath & North East Somerset
Primary Care Trust.
There are currently three Community Activators who are based in
South West Bath, Norton Radstock and Keynsham areas.
Each Community Activator is an exercise professional who can
offer safe and appropriate exercise programmes to individuals on a
one-to-one basis. They can help to break down the
barriers to regular physical activity that some people may face and
they come to you, in your community.
Anyone eligible for the one-to-one service MUST
be referred by a
Health Trainer and can call 01225 831847 or
email healthtrainers@banes-pct.nhs.uk
to find out how to contact their local Health
Trainer.
Community Activators can also offer:
- Group support
- Information and education sessions
- A drop-in service
How can Community Activators help me?
There are a number of different elements which make up the
Community Activator service. These include the following:
- working with you one-to-one for 12 weeks to improve your
physical activity levels
- helping you find modes of activity which suit you and your
health and lifestyle
- working to offer physical activity sessions in your
community
- offering motivational lifestyle change sessions and other
education / awareness courses
- providing drop-in sessions for you to find out more about
getting and staying active
The service is FREE and targets individuals and communities who
are not currently accessing physical activity services. It is
a specialist service and is can be accessed through the
Health Trainers.
