Why not walk? GET ACTIVE, get out, and feel good in the process.

Walking is

  •    free
  •    doesn’t require any special clothing
  •    you don’t need to worry about your ability or skill level
  •    you can do it with your friends, family or pets!
  •    can benefit your physical, mental and social health
  •    even better, walking is great for burning those calories – did you know that walking one mile can burn the same amount of calories as jogging; it just takes a little longer!

We have two levels of health walks in Bath & North East Somerset:

GET Strolling - These walks are targeting those who are making a start at increasing their activity levels.  They start at around 30 minutes and may progress to a maximum of an hour.  There will always be a front leader and a back marker to ensure everyone is safe, no matter what their pace!

GET Striding - These walks are suitable for those who prefer more of a brisk pace and more challenging routes, including hills and a possible change in terrain.  Walks will last no longer than one hour and will have a front leader and a back marker.

BUGGY WALKS are also offered to entice parents with young children to get out and about in their local area and acheive their 30 mins of moderate intesity activity.

All walk leaders have attended a WHI training day and will have risk assessed the route.  Appropriate footwear and clothing must be worn and all walkers will be asked to complete and sign a Outdoor Health Questionnaire prior to participation.

We recommend that if you have any kind of medical condition you should consult your GP before taking part.

Walks may be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

If you would like to find out  where and when our GET Strolling, GET Striding and BUGGY health walks are available, please check out our WALKS PLANNER below.

If you would like to train as a Volunteer Walk Leader (includes first aid and insurance provision), please get in touch with us to provide your details.  To get an idea of what the role and responsibilities of a Volunteer Walk Leader are, you can download the Roles and Responsibilities of a Volunteer Walk Leader document by clicking under 'Related Documents'.

BUGGY Walks:  These are family walks open to anyone with children under the age of 5 years.  A great way to meet new friends and get some fresh air and exercise at the same time.  We are hoping to link with the local Children's Centres in order to set up more buggy walks in the near future.
