TARGET GROUP: For all Health Care Assistants,
Support Workers working with people who need catheter care.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the course
participants will:
- Understand why catheterisation is usually the last option for
urinary incontinence
- Have a basic understanding of how and why patients are
catheterised
- Understand the risks regarding infection control and how to use
the NICE guidelines in practice
- Know how to provide everyday catheter care
- Recognise everyday causes of catheter blockage and carry out
basic troubleshooting
- Have a broader knowledge of different catheter appliances
available
- Recognise when you should ask a health professional for
help
