TARGET GROUP: All trained nurses working with people with urinary incontinence.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the course participants will:

  • Have an understanding of basic anatomy and function of bladder and lower urinary tract
  • Recognise 5 different types of urinary incontinence and in relation to them:
  1. Identify risk factors
  2. Identify signs and symptoms
  3. Discuss 1st line interventions
  4. Clearly identify which types of incontinence require specialist follow up
  • Know the hows and whys of completing a stage 1 Urinary Continence Assessment
  • Know how to order washable and disposable incontinence products
  • Know how to refer to the Continence Promotion Unit
