Venue
Magazine - a comprehensive guide for the area, and lists a
full two weeks diary including listings for pubs, art, books,
music, cinema, theatre, comedy, dance, sport and general leisure,
and mentions the Access facilities for a number of key
venues. Venue is published fortnightly, costs £1.80 and is
widely available at most newsagents, stations and bookshops.
Bath Central Library also holds a current copy for reference.
'This Month in Bath' is a free entertainment guide,
listing theatre, film, dance and music events. It is
available from the Tourist Information Centre, libraries and at the
larger entertainment centres.
BATH ASSOCIATION OF DISABLED PEOPLE
The Bath Association for
the Disabled is an umbrella group for around 35 different
disability organisations in the area. They organise meetings three
times a year, during which representatives from different
organisations meet up to exchange information and views and to
discuss issues important to the association. The association
administers a trust fund, which can be used to help towards The
costs of individuals and groups. They also organise a swimming
group for disabled people that meet once weekly. You can contact
the association for information and advice about disabled groups in
the area.

PHAB (Physically Handicapped, Able Bodied)
PHAB is a national charity
that encourages disabled and able-bodied people to meet together
and share interests and experiences. The Bath Phab Group meets
every Thursday to socialise and take part in recreational
activities such as, outings, walks, arts and crafts and visiting
the local pub. They will have a go at doing anything the group
members collectively want to do, and are always interested in new
ideas.
The Bath Phab group is in
the process of reforming and would very much like to see new faces
(both able bodied and disabled) of all age groups. If you are

DISABLED CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
The Disabled Christian
Fellowship is an organisation for disabled and non- disabled
Christians. They meet regularly and are involved in a range of
activities including games, bingo, day visits and visiting
speakers. Some branches arrange holidays and social outings.
Access and facilities are always suitable for disabled people and
there is no charge for these activities. If you would like to
attend the fellowship evenings you can phone your local branch.

18+ CLUB
The 18+ Club is part of
the Gateway Club and provides a weekly social group for a small
group of disabled and non-disabled people between 18 and 25, who
live in the Bath and North East Somerset area. The group, who meet
every Tuesday between 7pm and 9pm, decides the programme of

THE CHEERFUL CLUB
This is a weekly club for
people over 55 in the Bath and North East Somerset area that meets
every Thursday between 2pm and 4pm The venue is accessible for

BATH AND DISTRICT TAPES FOR THE HANDICAPPED AND BLIND
This service is run by the
Central United Reform Church for disabled and blind people in Bath
and surrounding areas. It distributes free speaking tapes every
month and can also provide books and music from the church library.
The speaking tapes include recordings of church services of varied
denominations. a general magazine tape covering issues of local
interest and a ‘chatterbox’ tape by regular contributors. The group
also run an annual outing in June and hold an annual general
meeting and harvest festival combined. For more information, write

ROUNDHILL CENTRE
The Roundhill Centre is
run by the YMCA and provides a wide range of activities geared to
all members of the community, although young people between 8 and
19 are especially welcome. Most activities are directed at this age
group, with their running of, for example, after school and
Holiday clubs. Charges for activities vary. The
building is accessible and the centre is open from Monday - Friday,

SUIT YOURSELF offer a
clothing service that takes the specific needs of disabled people
into account, They can advise and assist people, helping decide
what you need. They can also sell fashionable clothes and shoes
that can be adapted to the individual. The service has a list of
sympathetic dressmakers and tailors, and can adapt and make

The Special Collection
Catalogue is a fully illustrated catalogue produced together with
The Disabled Living Foundation. The clothing is designed with the
needs of disabled people in mind and feature stretch fabrics, roomy
armholes, elastic waists, Velcro and long front zips. It is fully
illustrated and includes ranges of leisurewear, knitwear, lingerie

RED CROSS
The British Red Cross
offer a free Therapeutic Care service for anyone who is tense or
anxious. The service is offered to individuals in places such as
hospitals and GP surgeries. It can also sometimes be offered to
disabled people at home if a GP or Community Nurse or other
professional will refer you to the service.
The care offered includes
hand care and hand massage, and neck and shoulder massage. It aims
to assist relaxation and promote a sense of well being as well as
offering the opportunity for people to talk to someone other than a
member of staff or family. The treatments are given by skilled and
trained volunteers.
SKIN CAMOUFLAGE
The British Red Cross
teaches people with disfiguring skin conditions and scars how to
use prescribable cover creams, helping them regain confidence and
independence.
The service is open to men, women and children through a medical
referral from a consultant or GP.

The Disability Information
Service database has a list of travelling hairdressers in the area
who can visit you at home. If you contact one of the disability
advice services listed at the front of this directory they can send
you a copy.
BODY SHOP FACIAL TREATMENTS
The Body Shop give free
facial makeovers in their shop for anyone interested. The shop is
wheelchair accessible and the staff are welcoming. The makeover
will include skin care, a colouring analysis, tips on make-up
application and your choice of ‘look’ (these can include an evening
look a natural look or the full-glamour look). You must phone the
shop at least 24 hours before you would like the makeover, to book
an appointment.
