What does Valuing People say about housing for people with
learning difficulties?
Valuing people is the governments plan for making the lives of
people with learning difficulties, their families and carers
better.
Valuing people says that the government wants more people with
learning difficulties and their carers to have a greater choice and
control over where and how they live.

What is Supported Living?
Housing with support is often called Supported Living or
Independent Living. What both of these terms mean is that a person
has their own home and support is put in place to help them live
independently. This could mean that they are supported for a few
hours a week, everyday, overnight or 24 hours a day. The support is
carefully planned to meet their needs to live
independently.
Housing Options in Bath & North East Somerset?
We want to improve housing choices for people with learning
difficulties in Bath & North East Somerset. We want people with
learning difficulties to have access to a range of housing and
support options. We want people with learning difficulties to be
fully involved and supported to plan where they would like to live
in the future.
We have produced the My Own Home ‘guide to housing for people with learning
difficulties’ to help you think about the different housing
and support options available. The guide provides information
about paying for supported living and who you need to contact to
find out more.
The guide is available on tape and CD. If you would like
an audio version please contact Sadie Jones on 01225

Support Providers
Here is a list of local providers who have been approved by us.
All the providers meet standards to support people to live in their
own homes.
Approved Support Providers
Providers are required to register with the Commission for
Social Care Inspection (CSCI) this is a formal body who inspect and
report on adult social care services in England. Providers receive
regular inspections and have to comply with many regulations and
standards. After an inspection the Commission for Social Care write
a report on their findings saying what the service does well and
what it needs to improve, the reports are made available on the
Commission for Social Care website - http://www.csci.org.uk/
