Fostering and Family Link
We aim to provide the highest standards possible for
children and young people in care. When parents are not able
to continue to care for their children, then in most cases we
arrange for them to stay with foster carers. We are
responsible for recruiting, assessing and supporting foster carers
who are willing to provide homes for children and young people aged
0-18 years. These young people have a range of needs – many
have previously experienced abuse or neglect and some have special
educational needs or health conditions.
We also provide a “short break” service for disabled
children and young people through a scheme called Family
Link. Children or young people who receive this
service have been assessed by their social worker as likely to
benefit from Family Link. We recruit, assess and support
Family Link carers who offer either daytime sessions or overnight
stays to disabled children of all ages. The amount of time a
carer can offer to the scheme depends on individual circumstances –
it can be several sessions a week or just once a month.
Family Link carers are assessed in a similar way to foster carers
and are supported by a social worker from the Family Placement
Team.
