By carrying out visits and investigations of food establishments
we:
- ensure that food is being handled and produced hygenically
- check for labelling of products and carry out food
sampling
- inspect the condition of equipment and the premises
- ensure there are precautions in place to prevent pest
infestation
- look at the potential risk for food poisoning or injury as a
result of food consumption
- ensure that food is safe to eat
- ensure that the food handling staff are trained in food hygiene
and handling practices.
Services Provided
Food hygiene advice, control and inspection:
- investigate food complaints.
- inspect food premises and vehicles according to risk rating and
in accordance with Code of practice and FSA guidance.
- advise on the suitability of premises for food business.
- health education advice when premises are inspected.
- organise food hygiene training particularly for minority groups
where such training is not available through the private
sector.
- provide advice to the organisers of one off events about food
safety and food hygiene.
- adopt a campaigning role when appropriate but mainly adopt a
formal enforcement role in accordance with the Councils enforcement
policy.
