How Often Do We Inspect?

The Food Team inspects all registered food premises within Bath and North East Somerset as part of a planned programme. Premises are given a risk rating after each inspection. This rating then determines the length of time until the premises is inspected again. The rating system has been devised by the Food Standards Agency and Local Authorities must follow this.

Following an inspection each premises is rated on the following areas:

• Type of Food and Method of Handling
• Method of Processing
• Consumers at Risk
• Vulnerable Groups
• Significant Risk
• Hygiene and Structure
• Confidence in Management/Control System
