Community Alarm Service

Enquiry Process

We offer potential users a ‘no obligation’ free demonstration of the service and equipment in their own homes.

Our installer will visit the potential user at the pre-arranged time and explain the service fully, answering the questions they may have.

The alarm can be installed at this time and all paperwork completed or the installer can return at a later date if required.

If you want to arrange a demonstration or refer a resident of Bath and North East Somerset for a demonstration contact us:

Tel: 01225 477892
Fax: 01225 336471
Email:
Carole_Fitzgerald@bathnes.gov.uk .

The cost of our service

  • Installation and registration charge £30.00
  • Hire and monitoring of the alarm £3.50 per week
  • Payment is in advance and charged quarterly which equates to £45.50.

If an alarm user is on certain means tested benefits we may be able to apply for a grant that pays for the alarm unit and the installation, the charge would then be £2.50 per week for monitoring the service.

What is needed for installation?

There must be-

  • A modern telephone socket
  • A 13 amp electric socket

These must be-

  • On the same wall
  • Within 5 metres of each other
  • Not on either side of a door, window or fireplace as the leads cannot be placed around or across.

We also require a minimum of

  • 2 emergency contacts who will hold keys and are willing to be called in an emergency.

Community Alarm Unit and Pendant

A Community Alarm unit is installed into the vulnerable person’s home and includes a pendant, which has a range of up to 200 metres.

When the pendant is pressed a radio signal is transmitted to the alarm unit that is programmed to dial the control centre.  When the alarm call is received through to the computer by the operator the details on the computer screen give the operator the information needed to deal with any emergency.

The microphone and speaker system on the base unit will enable the operator to converse with the user within the same room. When the user is in another part of the home, the operator may not be able to converse, nevertheless the pendant will still raise the alarm and the operator will deal with any emergency.

Additional Equipment Available

Extra pendant

An additional pendant can be requested for a second potential user at the same address at no additional charge.

Lost Pendants: please note that there is a charge for lost pendants.  Telephone us for more details.

Smoke Detector

The smoke detector is linked to the Community Alarm Service emergency alarm unit.  If the smoke detector is activated it will send a radio signal to the alarm.  The alarm will then call the control centre, alerting the operator who will contact the fire brigade.

Smoke Detector available on request at no extra charge.

Community Alarm Key Safe

What does a key safe look like?

A key safe is a metal box with a black plastic cover.

It is wall mounted and installed in a discreet position outside the property.

The key safe measures 4.5” (H) x 2.25” (W) x 1.5” (D) which holds 2 Yale keys OR 1 Chubb key and 1 Yale key.

How does the key safe work?

The key safe requires a 4-digit code between 0 and 9, and without the same number repeated twice e.g. 1957.

If you have a Community Alarm unit, or have requested an installation, we can arrange for the key safe to be fitted and your chosen code to be programmed.

This code will be kept on computer at the control centre and will only be given to emergency services in the event of them needing access to give assistance.

Once the code is entered the front of the key safe drops open, the keys can then be retrieved to gain access.  When the door is unlocked, simply return the keys to the safe, replace the front section and secure the safe by entering the code again.

What are the key safe charges?

The key safe will cost £66.00.  The charge includes fitting by a working partner from Care and Repair who will also input the code and report it directly to the control centre via the emergency alarm base unit in your home.

What is the enquiry and installation process?

Please call us on 01225 477892 if you would like to know more.

If you would like to have a key safe installed we will take your details and pass them to Care & Repair who will telephone you to arrange a convenient appointment date to install the key safe.

Community Alarm with Equipment Available for people who suffer Epilepsy or fits and convulsions:

Fall Detector

These pendants are worn around the neck or on a belt.

They automatically send a signal to the community alarm unit if they move from vertical to horizontal.

So if the user falls due to a fit, the pendant will send a radio signal to the unit and the alarm will dial the control centre.

At the control centre the operator will receive this call and the personal details of the user on the computer screen will inform them that assistance in needed immediately.

Fall detector available on request at no extra charge.
