Facts and Figures 2005/6/7

Protection

Information is provided here on:

  • children on the register
  • children added to the register
  • children de-registered
  • children who were subject of initial case conferences
  • children who were subject of S47 enquiries
  • enquiries to the register

Comparisons are made with a group of ‘like’ local authorities[i] and also England.  Additional information about the children on the register is given in the quarterly reports to the Area Child Protection Committee.

Reflecting the availability of published data the comparisons with ‘like’ local authorities relate to 2005/06 activity.  Information for Bath & North East Somerset is given up to 31 March 2007 but as further data may still be added to the client record system these 2006/07 results are provisional.

Number of children on the register

The number of children on the register at 31 March 2007 was 66, the highest since March 2000, see figure 1.

Compared to ‘like’ local authorities Bath & North East Somerset (March 2006) had a relatively low number of children on the register: 17 children per 10,000 children in the population, see figure 2.  The average for the group of ‘like’ local authorities was 22 which was slightly below the result for England, 24 children per 10,000.
