Comparisons are made with a group of ‘like’ local
authorities[i] and also England. Additional
information about the children on the register is given in the
quarterly reports to the Area Child Protection Committee.
Reflecting the availability of published data the comparisons
with ‘like’ local authorities relate to 2005/06 activity.
Information for Bath & North East Somerset is given up to 31
March 2007 but as further data may still be added to the client
record system these 2006/07 results are provisional.
Number of children on the register
The number of children on the register at 31 March 2007 was 66,
the highest since March 2000, see figure 1.
Compared to ‘like’ local authorities Bath & North East
Somerset (March 2006) had a relatively low number of children on
the register: 17 children per 10,000 children in the population,
see figure 2. The average for the group of ‘like’ local
authorities was 22 which was slightly below the result for England,
24 children per 10,000.
