Social and Housing Services

Housing and Supported Living

Healthy and sustainable homes for all, in living communities

Bath and North East Somerset Council works to ensure that there is suitable housing for everyone in the area.  If you have a housing-related problem please look at the brief description of our services below and follow the underlined item for more information:

  • Our Housing Advisors can offer housing advice on a range of housing issues covering private tenancies, affordable housing, debt advice, young people, domestic violence and homelessness prevention
  • You can apply to go on the Homeseekers Register which is the waiting list for social housing in Bath and North East Somerset. The Council works in partnership with eighteen housing associations to provide homes to rent and shared ownership for those on the waiting list
  • Advice and guidance on the standards acceptable in privately rented homes,  including Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is available from the Housing Standards Team . We can assist with issues including disrepair, fire safety, management of properties, gas and electrical safety and overcrowding. We also carry out inspections and enforcement of the regulations
  • Advice and financial assistance  is available from the Housing Improvement Team to help owner/occupiers and some private tenants to maintain and/or improve their home .  This team also helps with the provision of Disabled Facilities Grants to all householders
  • The Development Team helps to provide new affordable housing for those who cannot access the housing market.  We work with Registered Social Landlords and developers to provide new housing for rent, shared ownership and keyworkers
  • Residential Services provides residential care, respite care and day care facilities for older people
  • Supporting People helps to provide sheltered and supported housing services
  • The Supported Lodgings Scheme assists young people to learn to live independently finding them accommodation in a supportive environment
