The Council is proposing to build a new Refuse and Recycling
depot on the vacant industrial site next to the existing Recycling
Centre at Pixash Lane, Keynsham. The proposed depot will be a
state-of-the-art facility to give us the opportunity to improve our
refuse collection and waste transfer service. The site would
replace the waste transfer facility that is currently based at
Midland Road in Bath and needs to be relocated due to the Bath
Western Riverside regeneration project.
What is proposed for the site?
Council refuse collection vehicles would operate from here,
depositing waste for sorting. The waste would then be bulked up and
transported elsewhere for further recycling, treatment or disposal.
The site would also feature a community education facility
including a viewing gallery and classroom.
What stage are the plans at?
An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is being carried out to
identify any potential impacts of the proposal. The EIA will
recommend measures to avoid or reduce significant any impacts. This
should be finished by April 2007 and after that we will then be
ready to submit a Planning Application for the proposal.
What will happen to the existing Recycling Centre?
The proposed development does not intend to replace the existing
Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Pixash Lane. This will
remain open to the public and some improvements, such as new
signage, may also be made.
Will there still be a public Recycling Centre in
Bath?
Yes. The current public Household Waste and Recycling Centre at
Midland Road will need to be relocated to another site within Bath
and we are currently considering the most suitable site for
this.
Further Information A public information
exhibition was held on 8th and 9th December 2006 at Keynsham
Baptist Church. Over a hundred people came to the event to find out
further information, ask questions and register their comments. All
comments that were received are now being considered as part of the
Environmental Impact Assessment process. To view the display boards
used at the exhibition, along with impressions of what the site may
look like, layouts and maps of the proposed development please see
the related documents at the top of this page.
