Household Waste - Rubbish Collections

We provide a weekly refuse collection for the residents of Bath & North East Somerset and are committed to reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill. You can help to reduce the amount you throw away by making the most of our Recycling and Composting services and by reducing the amount you use in the first place.

Where and when to put your rubbish out

Your rubbish needs to be put at the front edge of your property ready for collection by 7am on your day of collection.  To find out your collection day, please  go to www.bathnes.gov.uk/myarea

If you have to place your rubbish on the pavement for collection, please make sure that it does not obstruct the pavement for pedestrians, wheelchairs or buggies.  It should not be left out on the pavement before 8pm the evening before your collection.  Anyone putting their rubbish out at the wrong time or place can be given a £50 fixed penalty notice.

Please note that we now collect refuse on all bank holidays except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.  For further information on our bank holiday collections, please go to Bank Holiday Collections.

What containers to use

Rubbish can be put out in black bags, conventional dustbins or other suitable containers.  Please do not put your rubbish out in wheeled bins as not all of our vehicles are equipped to empty them.

What we do and don't collect

Your refuse collection should be for everyday household items that cannot be recycled or composted.

Please note, we do not take items such as large bulky items, garden waste, hazardous waste and business waste.

The following table lists alternative ways of dealing with some of the waste that should not be in your refuse.  For further information on any of the service mentioned, please click on the links shown in bold.

Collection problems or questions

Although the time of our collection is broadly the same each week, we cannot guaranee this.  It is important to make sure that your refuse is put out by 7am on the correct collection day.

If you need to report a missed collection, you must let us know by the end of the following working day in order for us to go back and collect it.  Any missed collections reported after this time will not be collected until after your next scheduled collection.

If you need to report a missed collection or have any other problems or questions regarding your refuse service, please contact Council Connect on 01225 39 40 41 or email councilconnect@bathnes.gov.uk .
