Materials We Take at the Recycling Centres

The materials we take are shown in alphabetical order below.  Please make sure you separate your materials into the correct containers so that we can reuse, recycle and compost them.

Material

Guidelines

Asbestos

Maximum of 3 unbroken sheets.  Please phone Council Connect in advance.

Bicycles

No small wheeled bikes or ones with drop handle bars, severely damaged or incomplete bikes. Unsuitable ones can be put with the scrap metal

Books and CDs

Reusable books, records, tapes, CDs and DVDs. No magazines.

Bric a Brac

Small items suitable for reuse such as toys, pictures, ornaments etc.

Car Batteries

Please give to an attendant.  Take care when handling.

Cardboard

Most types of cardboard and brown paper packed flat.  No drinks cartons.

Cooking Oil

Please recycle the containers

Engine Oil

Please see a site attendant

Electrical Appliances

Cookers, washing machines, videos, hi-fis, microwaves etc. Please see a site attendant

Fridges and Freezers

Please see a site attendant

Fluorescent Tubes

Unbroken.  Do not tape together.

Food & Drinks Cartons

Pixash only.

Furniture

Tables, chairs, cupboards, storage units etc.  Please see a site attendant

Gas Bottles

Empty ones only where possible

Garden Waste

Most plant material from grass cuttings to branches. No soil, plastic or Japanese Knotweed

Hazardous Waste and Chemicals

In original secure containers where possible.  Please see a site attendant.

Recycling Banks

All the 13 materials that can be recycled through your green box including paper, cans (inc aerosols), glass, foil, plastic bottles, clothes and shoes, batteries, Yellow Pages, spectacles, mobile phones, ink and toner cartridges, car batteries and engine oil

Refuse

Please try not to bring your waste in bin bags.

Rubble and Soil

Only one car boot load per household.  See DIY Waste Limits.

Scrap Metal

Any item with a reasonable metal content

Shoes

In pairs in bags please.

TVs and Computer Monitors

Unbroken.  No flat screen types.

Timber

Good quality wood only.

Tyres

Whole tyres only. 4 tyres per project allowed.
