Image of students with green recycling box

Whether you live on or off campus, you will need to know about the recycling and refuse services that you can use.  The following guide is a brief summary of the main services you are likely to need during your time as a student.  Further information on the Council's waste services can be found by going to our main Recycling Rubbish and Waste page.

Refuse Collections

Please try to recycle and compost as much as possible to reduce the amount of rubbish you throw away.  Everything that gets thrown away gets sent to landfill, where it produces gases such as methane that have been linked to climate change.

How do I put my refuse out?

You need to put your refuse out by 7am on the correct collection day.  Please make sure that it is at the front edge of your property where it is visible and accessible. You can put your refuse out in black sacks or a conventional dustbin.  Please make sure the bags are properly sealed and are not too heavy to lift and make sure any sharp objects are wrapped carefully to prevent injury.

At the end of term please be mindful of your neighbours and avoid leaving piles of rubbish behind by planning ahead and remembering to put your rubbish out for collection on the right day and time.  Large items should be taken to the Recycling Centres (see below).
