The Core Strategy
Work to put together a new generation of planning policies which
will set out the broad locations for new housing, jobs and
community facilities is being launched by the Council. Some of
these new policies will be set out in document called the Core
Strategy.
The Core Strategy will set out the long term planning framework
for the District looking ahead to 2026.
It will take on board the findings of studies, other Council
Strategies and consultations, including the Sustainable
Community Strategy and the Future for Bath & North East
Somerset Visions.
How will the Core Strategy be Prepared?
We do not have a blank canvas when preparing the Core
Strategy. There are national planning policies and standards
that we must adhere to. Our plans must also be in general
conformity with the Regional Spatial Strategy. The Regional
Spatial Strategy sets out unprecedented levels of growth in housing
and other areas over the next 20 years.
Find out more about the Regional Spatial Strategy.
The Core Strategy must reflect the local distinctiveness of the
area and deal with issues relevant at a local level.
Furthermore a Sustainability Appraisal
must be carried out for the Core Strategy
