Flyposting is the 'display of advertising material on buildings
and street furniture without the consent of the owner'.
Flyposting occurs in most locations but is particularly prevalent
in prominent locations within urban areas, usually on street
furnishings and vacant buildings. These posters are
unsightly and can have a detrimental effect on the image of an
area.
The display of posters in this way is an unauthorised activity
under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements)
Regulations 1992. Flyposting is therefore a criminal
offence which renders the perpetrators liable to
prosecution. The current maximum fine upon prosecution
is £2,500 with each poster being treated an individual offence.
There are many ways in which event organisers can legitimately
advertise without spoiling the local environment. These
include advertising behind shop windows, in newspapers and local
magazines and on local radio.
Bath and North East Somerset Council does not tolerate
flyposting and will take vigorous action against this anti social
behaviour.
If you have any concerns regarding flyposting within the Bath
and North East Somerset Area, please call the Council’s Planning
Enforcement Team on 01225 477512 to report the
problem.
