Householder Development Planning Questionnaire
The regulations concerning the need for planning permission for
house extensions are very complicated. Please complete the
downloadable questionnaire on the right if you are unsure
whether you require planning permission for householder
development. ** The questionnaire has been temporarily
removed so it can be updated in accordance with the new legislation
**
- This questionnaire can be completed by anyone who wishes to
obtain the informal opinion of the Authority as to whether or not a
proposed householder development might require formal planning
approval.
- This questionnaire relates solely to individual residential
properties and not to any flats, or properties with a business
use.
- The relevant sections of the form should be completed and a
sketch showing the proposed development should be indicated in the
space provided on the final sheet.
- Please ensure all measurements stated are in
metric.
Please note: A fee of £30 (inclusive of VAT) is
applicable. Fees are paid in advance - we will NOT invoice for a
request due to the low fee. Cheques will be made payable to Bath
and N E Somerset Council.
Officers cannot give information about whether or not permission
is needed without the information asked for on this form.
1st October 2008 - Changes to permitted development
rights
Changes to permitted development rights will be introduced
by the government from 1st October 2008. Detailed
information can be found on the Planning Portal website and an interactive
guide to home improvements has also been produced which is
available by clicking here (external link).
The new interactive house guide helps people who want to
improve their home ensuring no one falls foul of the new rules. It
guides users round the planning permission rules for homes from
everything at the front and back of house through to each floor
inside. All people have to do is click on the part the house they
are changing whether it's a loft conversion, the driveway, solar
panels, fencing, or even the bathroom and a pop up explains all the
new rules.
